Gopalganj: A written complaint has been lodged against eight persons including a Bengal cadre IAS officer Jahid Mohammad with Baikunthpur police station in Gopalganj district in connection with an alleged incident of rangdari.
One Haji Mohammad Hasnain, a native of village Katalpur, in his written complaint alleged that he was assaulted by the accused when he refused to pay them Rs 5 lakh as rangdari. The complainant alleged that the accused including the IAS officer reached his house and demanded Rs. 5 lakh as rangdari and when he refused to pay the amount, they assaulted him with lathis and arms.
The complainant, in his written statement, alleged that the accused also ransacked his house and damaged property worth Rs 1.5 lakh. Police said that they were probing the allegations levelled by the complainant after registering the FIR.
