Patna : Police on October 26, 2018, recovered three astadhatu idols of Ram-Janki and Lord Laxman stolen from Ram Janki Temple at village Banaura under Baikunthpur police station in Gopalganj district within 36 hours of the incident. The idols were purchased at a price of Rs 1 lakh in 1970 and installed at the temple.
SHO, Baikunthpur police station, Amitesh Kumar, said that raids were carried out in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Kesaria police station in neighbouring East Champaran district and after getting some clues, a police team was constituted on October 26, 2018, morning, to recover the stolen idols.

SHO Kumar said that police team first arrested one Sadhu Gopal Mahto from Talimapur in neighbouring Siwan district and after that raid was conducted at village Amarpura under Mahammadpur police station in Gopalganj district at the house of one Tyagi Baba from where police team recovered three idols hidden in a room where cattle animals were kept. The SHO said that seven other idols of deities were also recovered from the room. Police arrested Tyagi Baba.
