Gopalganj: Family members of an arrested youth had a spat with the cops when the latter reached Gopalganj Civil Court premises on Monday. The youth was arrested on charge of possessing a weapon.

Former Gopalganj Zila Parishad member and native of village Bhojpurwa (Manjha ps) Renu Devi alleged that her son Bunti Kumar alias Bunti Singh was arrested by police and assaulted mercilessly. She alleged that the cops also pulled out Bunti’s nails in the lock-up, where he was kept for five days.

Renu said that she had also filed a petition in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Gopalganj, seeking action against the cops. She said that her son was arrested by police on November 23 with a four-wheeler and was kept in Thawe police station. She said that she also submitted a petition with the office of Gopalganj SP, seeking justice for her son. “But nothing happened,” she said, alleging that her son was beaten mercilessly by the cops. Eyewitnesses said that on Monday, Bunti was brought to the local court by a police team. Sources said that as the family members saw Bunti, they had a spat with the cops.

On getting information, local police reached the spot but the cops had a difficult time in handling the situation. Later, policemen deployed on court premises reached there and somehow removed the family members from there.
