Gold, silver and cash stolen from jewellery shop in Gopalganj

Gopalganj: Some thieves targeted a jewellary shop in  Bangara bazaar locality under Vijayeepur police station in Gopalganj district and escaped with a chest kept there late on February 3 night. The broken chest containing cash and gold-silver was found thrown about one- and -half km away from the shop with valuables missing.

As the news of theft spread in the locality on February 4 morning, the traders downed their shutters. On getting information, police rushed to the spot to control the situation. The cops had a tough time in pacifying the traders. Police said that one Ranjan Kumar Verma, a native of village Korhwaliya under Vijayeepur police station, runs a jewellary shop in Bangara Bazzar. On February 3 night, he went to his house after closing his shop. When Verma reached his shop on February 4 morning, he found the shutter of his shop broken and heist missing. About 100 gm gold, seven kg silver besides Rs 13,000 cash were stolen from the heist by the thieves.

Vijayeepur police station SHO Pankaj Kumar had to face the traders’ ire when he reached the spot. The agitated traders were demanding presence of Gopalganj SP on the spot. An FIR had been lodged with the police station concerned against unknown persons.
