Patna : World Number 8 David Goffin, 26, Belgium, stunned World Number 2 and winner of seven titles in 2017 Roger Federer, 36, Switzerland, in the semi-finals of ATP World Tour Finals at O2 arena, Lonlon, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, to move into the finals for the first time in his career. Federer, who was favourite for the title, won the first set very easily but Goffin, in a stirring comeback, won the next two sets to beat his childhood hero for the first time.

Goffin had defeated an injured Rafael Nadal, 31, Spain, the World Number 1, on November 13 in a Pete Sampras group match in three sets. Nadal pulled out of the ATP Tour final after that due to knee injury. Goffin has thus defeated both Nadal and Federer in the same tournament. Goffin had, however, lost to World Number 6 Grigor Dimitrov, Bulgaria, in another Pete Sampras group match, but defeated Dominic Thief, world Number 4 from Austria, to enter the semi-finals of the event. Federer had topped the Boris Becker group winning all his three matches while Dimitrov topped the Sampras group winning all his three matches.

Dimitrov is facing Jack Sock, US, in another semi-finals.
