Girl confined to room for 3 months in Bhojpur as father fails to pay debt

Ara : A teenage girl Anjali Kumari was tied up and confined to a room for about three months after her father failed to pay his debt on time at village Tipura under Bihia police station in Bhojpur district. On June 14, 2018, evening, the girl somehow escaped from the clutches of her tormentor and reached Bihia police station with the help of villagers where she narrated her story before police. Police lodged a named FIR and arrested one person in this connection though the main accused is still at large.

SHO, Bihia police station, said Lamboo Kharwar of village Tipura had borrowed some money from his neighbour K P Kharwar with a promise to return the amount but he failed to do so on time. At this, K P Kharwar kidnapped Lamboo Kharwar’s minor girl Anjali Kumari and confined her in a room with her legs tied with iron chains. He and his wife Arti Devi allegedly tortured and beat her almost daily, forced to work the whole day and gave bread to eat only once in a day. They also threatened her with dire consequences and kill her younger brother if she dared escape.

K P Kharwar asked Lamboo Kharwar to return his money otherwise he would not release his daughter. Lamboo Kharwar along with his family escaped from the village.

On June 14 evening, Anjali got a chance to escpae as K P Kharwar and his family members were away and she escaped from the house with iron chains and sought help from the villagers. The villagers took her to Bihia police station. Police got her iron chains cut and reached the house of K P Kharwar but he along with family members had fled away from the village. Police arrested Ram Bharan Sharma who had made iron chain for tying the girl.

ASP Manjeet Kumar said that stern action would be taken against the main accused and police were searching everywhere to arrest him. He said that police are investigating the matter.
