Gopalganj: A Dalit girl was assaulted and dragged by some youths at village Bargachiya under Manjha police station in Gopalganj district on November 27. The youth also set ablaze the girl’s house. The girl was admitted to local hospital and an FIR was lodged against two persons on the statement of her mother.
The complainant also sought protection from the local police alleging the accused have threatened to kidnap her daughter and rape her. The accused have fled the village after the incident. Police said that the victim along with her mother used to work in the
fields of one Paras Singh and some money was due with Singh. The girl had gone to Singh’s house to demand the money as her mother was sick and she had to purchase medicine for her.
As the girl reached Singh’s house, Singh along with some others caught her and started beating her. The villagers could not dare
protest as Singh happens to be a muscleman of the village. Singh along with his associates also set ablaze the victim’s house in which
valuables including ornaments and saris were burnt. The victim’s mother said that she had made arrangements for her
daughter’s marriage but everything was lost in the fire.
