Patna : World Number 89 Gilles Simon, France, 33, defeated Number 2 seed and World Number 14 Kevin Anderson of South Africa in straight sets 7-6, 6-2 to lift the Tata Open Maharashtra title, an ATP 250 event, at Pune on January 6, 2018. The event was played on Hard Courts. It was Simon’s 13th singles title. Anderson had reached the final of UP Open in 2017. Simon, who was unseeded at the Pune event, had stunned top seed and World Number 6 Marin Cilic on January 5 to enter the final of Tata Open Maharashtra.
