Patna : Germany upset 2020 champion Serbia 2-1 at Melbourne Park, Australia, on February 5, 2021, to advance to the semi-finals of ATP Cup 2021. Spain, Italy, and Russia, also entered the SFs on February 5, 2021. Germany will face Russia in the SFs while Italy will clash with Spain.
World No 1 Novak Djokovic, 33, Serbia, beat World No 7 Alexander Zverev, 23, Germany,in three-sets 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 rallying back from one set down. Djokovic won 4 break points in the match to just 1 by Zverev. The German, however, fired 16 Aces in the match to 11 by Djokovic. The Serbian won 68 points to 63 by Zverev.
But, Jan-Lennard Struff, Germany, defeated World No 26 Dusan Lajovic, 30, Serbia, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Struff fired 13 Aces during he match to 5 by Lajovic. Struff won 3 break points to 2 by the Serbian.
In the doubles, Alexander Zverev & Jan-Lennard Struff, Germany, beat Novak Djokovic & Nikola Cacic, Serbia, 7-6, 5-7, 10-7 give Germany 2-1 victory and passage into the SFs of ATP Cup.
