Gangster Ranjit Mahto killed in encounter with Madhubani police

Madhubani : A notorious criminal Ranjit Mahto, about 25, was killed in an encounter with police and STF at Dorwala under Jainagar police station in Madhubani district in the early hours on May 17, 2017. Madhubani SP Dipak Barnwal while confirming the killing of Ranjit in an encounter said that he was involved in several major crimes and police were searching for him.

The encounter lasted for two hours indicating how well entrenched gangster Ranjit Mahto was at the time of encounter which took place at a brick kiln at Dorwala. The brick kiln is allegedly owned by a former Mukhia.

Ranjit had taken shelter at the brick kiln. Police and STF, on a tip off, surrounded the brick kiln after which Ranjit and three members of his gang started firing on cops. Police also retaliated in which Ranjit was killed but his three associates managed to escpae. Ranjit was involved several cases of loot, murder and extortion demand. Police seized two Carbines and a pistol from the spot.
