Patna : World No 31 Taylor Fritz, 21, USA, stunned second seed Alexander Zverev, 22, Germany, in the first round of Swiss Indoors Basel, an ATP World Tour 500 points event, at Basel, Switzerland, on October 22, 2019.

Fritz beat World No 6 Zverev 7-6, 6-4 in 1hr 24 minutes causing a major upset in the tournament. Zverev had reached the final of ATP Shanghai Masters recently. Fritz hammered 14 Aces in the match to 8 by the German. Fritz also won 1 break point besides winning 3 games in a row in the match. The American won 51 service points in the match to 46 by the German.

Fifth seed Fabio Fognini, 32, Italy, the World No 12, defeated qualifier Alexei Popyrin, 20, Australia, 6-2, 6-4 in 77 minutes to enter the 2nd round. Fognini won 4 break points in the match to 1 by the Australian. World No 88 Popyrin fired 7 Aces in the match to 5 by the Italian. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match.
