Four passengers sustain gunshot injuries as criminals open fire at Chanpatia Rly. Station

Bettiah :  Four passengers received gunshot injuries while boarding Amritsar-Darbhanga Exexpress train at Chanpatia railway station platform in West Champaran District under Samastipur  Division of  East Central Railways (ECR), Hajipur, at 1 am on March 22, 2020,  as unidentified criminals resorted to indiscriminate firing apparently targeting someone. Chanpatia Railway Station falls between Bettiah and Narkatiyaganj Railway Stations. The injured persons were rushed to Government Medical College,,Bettiah, and  the Government Railway Police (GRP)  is investigating into the incident.

SP, Rail, Muzaffarpur,Ashok Kumar Singh, while talking to this reporter said that around 1 am  Amritsar-Darbhanga Express train  reached Chanpatia railway station and  the passengers were trying to board  the train in hurry. In the meantime, four persons opened  five rounds of fire targeting one Sandip Kumar, 30. Sandip Kumar, Birendra Sahni, Ajay Paswan, and Muniraka Das, sustained gunshot  injuries, the SP said. Police suspect that the criminals wanted to kill Sandip but other three persons were also injured but  they are out of danger.

Sandip  Kumar, who sustained injuries in neck and chest, was sent to a private nursing home at Motihari. SP Singh said that the shootout
occurred in front of the office of the Station Master on the platform. The  SP said that all the injured persons are local and the cause of this  incident appears to be personal enmity with Sandip, who works at a hotel.  All the criminals would be arrested soon, SP Singh claimed.
