Motihari : Four Nigerian nationals: Anyaso Samson Dardi , Okeke Desmond Kelly, Udealor Samuel Uche, and Igwe Moses, who are lodged at Outhouse of Central Jail, Motihari, headquarters of East Champaran District in North Bihar, are awaiting their release from jail for more than three months after their acquittal in a case of illegal entry into Indian territory.
They were arrested at Raxaul in East Champaran District on Indo-Nepal border on February 1 , 2019, while entering in Indian territory without valid documents and were remanded to jail under Foreign Act . On August 8 ,2019 , all 4 Nigerians were acquitted by the trial court of SDJM, Raxaul, when they admitted their mistakes before court of entering into Indian territory. They are no longer inmates of jail but are under detention in jail custody and are waiting for their deportation papers for Nigeria.
DM, East Champaran, Raman Kumar, said that the documents including passports of 4 Nigerians have been sent to MHA for verification from embassy of Nigeria but the Government of India is yet to receive any replyin this connection from there. This is the reason of delay in their deportation. They are lodged inside jail campus but in outhouse with all facilities, the DM said.
On February 1 ,2019, these Nigerians were spotted by immigration officials at Raxaul border while sneaking into Indian territory from Nepal. The officials found their travelling documents were invalid ad had made illegal entry into Indian territory. They were sent to jail. During trial, Sarvesh Kumar Mishra, SDJM, Raxaul,found that they had crossed the border of Nepal by mistake for shopping at Raxaul and acquitted them on August 8 ,2019.
Anyaso Samson Dardi told this scribe said that his daughter died in last month in his country due to lack of proper medical care. He and his three friends have been detained on premises of central jail though when the jail authorities had released them from the main jail.
SP, East Champaran, Upendra Kumar Sharma said once their passports are verified by Nigerian embassy they would be deported to their country. He further said they have to be treated as the prisoner until their passports are verified. They are provided meals, medical facilities as per the rules of foreigner rules, he said.
