Patna: Shashtrinagar police, Patna, on Thursday sent four medical students of Indira Gandhi Institutes of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) to jail in connection with the assault of Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) Anil Kumar while a group of cops were on routine checking near IGIMS.
It may be mentioned here that Anil caught two medical students of IGIMS moving on a bike without helmet on Wednesday. As he intercepted them, the students lost their cool and abused the police team including the ASI. It is reported that one of the cops slapped a student, who later returned with some other medical students and locals and assaulted the ASI. A woman SI Indu Kumari along with cops reached there but they were also assaulted by the mob. On getting information, senior police officers including City SP Chandan Kushwaha reached there and arrested the trouble mongers.
Shashtrinagar PS SHO Virendra Yadav said that all the arrested youths were medical students of IGIMS and were sent to jail based on the complaint lodged by the ASI. On Thursday, a large number of policemen were deployed on the IGIMS premises to thwart any trouble. The medical students also went on strike creating problem for the patients.
However, state Health minister Tej Pratap Yadav said that action would be taken against those involved in the incident. He further said that the officials are keeping an eye on the incidents that took place at IGIMS.
