Patna : A Hazaribagh court in Jharkhand on May 18, 2017, convicted former Maharajganj MP and senior RJD leader Prabhunath Singh and two others and sent them to jail in MLA Ashok Singh murder case of 1995. The quantum of punishment would be pronounced on May 23, 2017.

Ashok Singh was MLA from Masrakh assembly constituency in Saran district when he was killed by unidentified gunmen in July 1995 at his Patna residence. Prabhunath Singh is considered close to RJD chief Lalu Prasad. The case was transferred to Hazaribagh court from Patna in 1997 when Bihar was undivided. Jharkhand state came into existence on November 15, 2000.
