Sitamarhi: Flood caused due to torrential rains in north Bihar and Nepal for the last six days is posing threat to Eastern Embankment of river Bagmati at several points in Sitamarhi district. The IMD has forecast for heavy rains in coming days.

Sitamarhi district magistrate Dr Ranjeet Kumar Singh on July 13, 2019, inspected several points of Eastern Embankment of river Bagmati   including village Rampur Kanth under Majorganj block along with a group of officials. Around 30 villages bordering Nepal s have been affected by heavy rains in Bihar and Nepal. The district administration has clamped prohibitory orders in areas adjoining river Bagmati. The river is flowing three meters above the danger mark.The leave of officials has been cancelled.

In view of flood like situation in eight blocks of Sitamarhi district, SDRF and NDRF teams have been requisitioned. A small unit of SDRF team has been pressed into rescue works in Parihar block. Rivers like Marha and Hardi ae posing threat to 20 villages with flood water entering Parihar block office and primary health centre (PHC). Road communication from district headquarters has been disrupted. The DM has ordered for the closure of schools till July 20, 2019, in the district.
Bairgania, Suppi, Majorganj, Parsauni, Belsand, Runnisaidpur, Sonbarsa and Parihar blocks are affected by rain water and spate in Nepal rivers. The affected villagers are demanding boats, relief, and rehabilitation. The district administration has deployed teams to assess and prepare a detail report. Road communication to Bairgania and Majorganj block headquarters have disrupted. Trains are not running between Sitamarhi and Raxaul in East Champaran district.
