Flood situation grim in low lying areas under 7 Blocks in Bagaha Sub-Division

Bagaha : Hilly rivers including Gandak, Manor, Bhapsa, Kosil, Haraha, Masan, Pandai, Harbora, Ramrekha are in spate following incessant rain during last 48 hours in their catchment areas couple with discharge of  2.32 lakh cusec water from Gandak Barrage, Valmikinagar, in West Champaran District on September 18, 2019, afternoon.

The situation is grim in low laying areas under Piparasi, Madhubani, Bhitaha, Thakaraha, Bagaha, Ramnagar and  Sidhav blocks under Bagaha  Sub-Division in West Champaran District in North Bihar with 1 to 2 feet deep water flowing on    Valmikinagar -Bagaha State Highways  near Balzora  and Hadiachati . Traffic on NH 727, which  leads to Kushinagar District in UP,  has been disrupted as three to four feet deep water is flowing on road between Madanpur to Salikpur village.

The water of  Masan river has entered Raybari, Mahuyawa, Jharmahuyee, Bariyarawa villages besides Gudguddi panchayat uprooting base of electric poles installed in the river bed. Rail traffic remained paralysed for around 15 hours on September 18, 2019. The flood has destroyed Paddy and Maize crops grown in the  Gandak Diara (riverine), which were expected to be harvested within a fortnight, said former Mukhia of Semra Labdeha panchayat under Piparasi block Chhedilal Prasad.

Flood has posed threat to Amawa Khas embankment in Kushinagar district in UP, which  connects to Pipara -Piparasi (PP) embankment near  Bhuidharawa panchayat, due to dilapidated condition of the embankment, said Phulbadan Devi, Mukhia  of Bhuidharawa  panchayat. If the embankment is breached, vast areas on Bihar-UP border will be inundated, she  feared.

Meanwhile, West Champaran District  administration on September 18, 2019, has asked officials of Piparasi, Madhubani, Bhitaha, Thakaraha, Bagaha, Sidhav blocks to remain alert in view of the flood situation.
