Patna: With the arrest of five persons, Patna Police claimed to have busted Ghorasahan gang. Police also recovered Rs 40,000 cash, three cutters, four iron rods, three jacks, two cellphones, three chisels and two costly watches from the possession of the arrested persons, said Patna Senior SP (SSP) Mannu Maharaaj here on January 27.

Patna SSP had been receiving inputs that members of inter-state Ghorasahan gang have sneaked into Patna and were planning to commit some crime. The gang looted commercial centres in posh colonies in metros. The gang members used to sell the looted valuables to smugglers of neighbouring countries. Cops of several states including Gujarat, Maharashtra and Jharkhand were carrying out raids in Bihar to arrest them.

Sensing the gravity of the situation, SSP constituted a police team under the leadership of City SP (Central) and directed the team members to keep an eye over the commercial centres of the city. The police team started collecting information about such gangs. Police patrolling at night was also intensified around these centres. Police team received information that some people were moving in suspicious manner near Maurya Lok premises. Policemen in civies were deployed at selected spots and the cops spotted five persons hovering around Maurya Lok Complex. When the cops challenged them, they started escaping. The cops nabbed them after a hot chase.Police said that during interrogation, the arrested persons admitted that they are members of Ghorahasan gang and were selecting shops. The arrested persons also told police that they were staying at a hotel near Patna Junction under Kotwali police station.

SSP said that one of the arrested persons Prabhunath Pandey told police that the gang members were earlier arrested by Patna Police and after that they never targeted any installation in Patna. He told police that they had planned to move to Mumbai to commit some crime there after carrying out their operation in Patna. Their other associates were  also to reach Patna, Pandey told police.

SSP said that Pandey revealed that one of their teams was asked to gather information about shops in Patna while other members of the gang had selected some shops in Mumbai. He said that after carrying out their operation, they used to sell the looted materials to agents of smugglers of Bangladesh and Nepal.

SSP said that the gang used to commit crime in several states and the cops used to reach Ghorasahan searching for them. Pandey also told police that they had earlier looted valuables from several states including Dhanbad and Chaibasa in Jharkhand and Bengluru. SSP said that raids were on to arrest other members of the gang. The arrested persons were identified as Prabhunath Pandey, Vivad Das, Rajan Kumar, Mohd. Haroon and Mohan Kumar, all natives of Ghorasahan in East Champaran.
