Federer wins AO 2018, bags 20th Grand Slam title

Patna : World Number 2 and Defending Champion Roger Federer, 36, Switzerland, won his 20th Grand Slam title defeating World Number 6 Marin Cilic, 29, Croatia, in a five set contest 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at Melbourne Park, Australia, on January 28, 2018. He has become the first men’s tennis player to win 20 Grand Slam titles.

Federer has won his sixth AO title and has won his second consecutive title at Melbourne Park in 2018. He has become the oldest to win the AO title since Ken Rosewall won it in 1972 at 37. Novak Djokovic, 30, Serbia, and Roy Emerson, Australia, hav  also won six AO title each.

Federer described his victory as ‘unbelievable’. Federer had defeated Cilic in the final of Wimbledon, a grass court tournament, in 2017 too. Federer was virtually rendered speechless after his victory on January 28, 2018, with tears rolling down his eyes.
