Patna : England defeated Australia by 12 runs in the 5th and final ODI at Perth Stadium, Burswood, Australia, on January 28, 2018, winning the five-match ODI series 4-1. Australia won the toss but opted to bowl first.
England were all out for 259 in 47.4 overs with opener Jason Roy scoring 49 in 46 balls hitting 7 fours and a six while his partner Jonny Bairstow made 44 in 48 balls hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes. They were involved in a partnership of 71 runs for the first wicket. Alex Hales made 35 in 47 balls hitting 3 fours and a six. Joe Root made 62 in 68 balls but hit only 2 fours while England ODI Captain Eoin Morgan was out for 3 only. Wicketkeeper Jose Buttler made 21 in 25 balls hitting a four and a six. Moin Ali made 6 while bowling all rounder Tom Curran remained unbeaten on 11 in 7 balls hitting a six.
For Australia, Andrew Tye took 5/46 while Mitchell Marsh took 2/24. Fast bowler Mitchell Starc took 1/63 while spinner Adam Zampa took 1/46. Adil Rashid was run out for 12.
Chasing a victory target of 260, Australia were all out for 247 in 48.2 overs with all rounder Marcus Stoinis scoring 87 in 99 balls hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes while Glen Maxwell made 34 in 39 balls hitting 3 fours and a six. Wicketkeeper Tim Paine, who made a valiant effort to reach the target, was the last Australian batsman to get out for 34 in 44 balls hitting 2 fours and a six. He was bolwed by fast bowler Tom Curran. Travis Head was run out for 22 while opener David Warner made 15. Captain Steven Smith made 12 in 23 balls without hitting a single four.
For England, fast bowler Top Curran, 22, son of former Zimbabwe international Kevin Curran, took 5/35 while spinner Moin Ali took 3/55. Spinner A Rashid took 1/55. Tom Curran was declared Player of the Match.
