Gurugram ( Haryana) : Top seed and World No 3 Roger Federer, Switzerland, World No 33 David Goffin, Belgium, World No 22 Matteo Berrettini, Italay, and World No 43 Pierre Hugues Herbert, 28, France, entered the semi-finals of Halle Open, Germany, an ATP World Tour 500 points tournament. The tournament is also called Noventi Open.
Federer beat World No 20 Roberto Bautistsa Agut, 31, Spain, in a three-set thriller 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in 1hr 53 minutes at Gerry Weber Stadion, Halle, Germany, in the quarter-finals on June 21, 2019, evening. Goffin upset 2nd seed and World No 5 Alexander Zverev, Germany, in a tough three-set contest 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 in the quarter-finals in 2hr 16 minutes. Zverev though hammered 14 Aces in the match to 4 by Goffin.But, he also committed 9 double faults to 3 by Goffin, who also won a break point. Goffin won 7 games in a row to 3 by Zverev. The German though won 63 service points to 57 by Goffin.
Berrettini upset 3rd seed and World No 9 Karen Khachanov, Russia, 6-2, 7-6 in the QFs. Berretini fired 6 Aces in the match to 3 by Khachanov. The Italian also won 2 break points to none by the Russian. Berrettini won 49 service points to 44 by the Russian. The Italian also won 4 games in a row in the match. Berrettini will face Goffin in the first semi-finals on June 22, 2019, at 4.30 pm.
Herbert entered the SFs after his quarter-finals opponent and defending champion Borna Coric, 22, Croatia, the World No 14, retired due to injury after losing the first set 5-7. Herbert will face Federer in the SFs on June 22, 2019, at 7 pm.
