New Delhi : Railways Minister Piyush Goyal on November 24, 2017, announced an enhanced ex gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh to grievously injured and Rs 50,000 to persons who sustained simple injuries in the derailment of 14 coaches of  Vasco Da Gama -Patna Express near Manikpur railway station in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh at 4.18 am on the day. Commissioner of Railway Safety/NE Circle shall conduct an inquiry into this accident.

Three passengers lost their lives, three passengers got grievously injured and six passengers sustained simple injuries in this accident, according to a PIB release. On receiving the news about this accident, Ashwani Lohani, Chairman, Railway Board, M C Chauhan, General Manager, North Central Railway, S K Pankaj, DRM, Allahabad and other senior officers rushed to the accident site.

One special train was arranged from Manikpur for rest 450 passengers. Adequate free catering arrangements were also made at site and hospitals for passengers.
