Patna : England crushed Australia by 135 runs in the 5th Ashes Test at Kennington Oval, London, on Day 4 on September 15, 2019, night, to level the five-match series 2-2. England fast bowler Stuart Broad took 4/62 in 15 overs while spinner Jack Leach took 4/49 in 22 overs. England captain Joe Root took 2/26 in 9 overs.

Set a target of 399 runs, Australia were all out for 263 runs in their 2nd innings with Matthew Wade scoring 117 in 166 balls with 17 fours and a six, his 4th test century. Steven Smith fell to Broad for 23. Both the teams won 48 ICC Test Championships points each. But, Australia retained the Ashes as they had won the last Ashes series in Australia.

England fast bowler Jofra Archer was declared Player of the Match for taking 6/62 in Australia’s first innings. Australia were all out for 225 in their first innings while England had scored 294 in their 1st innings and 329 in their 2nd innings.

Steven Smith and Ben Stokes were declared Player of the series. Smith scored three centuries in the series while Stokes scored two unbeaten centuries in the series. Australia Opener David Warner, who has scored 21 test centuries, could score only 95 run in this series. Smith scored 774 runs in the series in 4 tests.

Matthew Wade added 63 runs with Mitchell Marsh (24) for the 5th wicket. Wade also added 52 runs with captain Tim Paine (21) for the 6th wicket. Wade added 44 runs with pat Cummins (9)  for the 7th wicket. Wade fell to Root for 117 making it 260/8. The last two Australia wickets fell when the team score was 263.
