Patna : Electing to bat after winning the toss, England were all out for 205 runs in 75.5 overs in the third session of play on Day 1 in their first innings in 4th test against India at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on March 4, 2021, as spinner Axar Patel took 4/68 in 26 overs including 2 wickets in his 24th over while fellow spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took 3/47 in 19.5 overs. Pacer Mohd Siraj took 2/45 while spinner Washington Sundar took 1/14. Playing his 3rd test, Axar Patel has taken 22 wickets in the series so far.

For England, all-rounder Ben Stokes scored 55 in 121 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes while Daniel Lawrence scored 46 in 74 balls hitting 8 fours.  England captain Joe Root fell lbw to Mohd Siraj for 5. England were struggling at 30/3 after 12.1 overs.  But, Jonny Bairstow and all-rounder Ben Stokes steadied the innings adding 48 runs for the 4th wicket.

Baristow fell to Siraj for 28 in 67 balls with 6 fours. Stokes fell to Washington Sundar for 55 making it 121/5. Ollie Pope fell to Ashwin for 29 in 87 balls with 2 fours and it was 166/6. Ben Foakes (wk) fell to Ashwin for 1 making it 170/7. Daniel Lawrence fell to Axar Patel for 46 and it was 188/8.  Dom Bess fell to Axar for 3 and it was 189/9. Jack Leach fell to Ashwin for 7 and England were all out for 205. James Anderson remained unbeaten on 10 with 1 four.

India too had a disastrous start to their first first innings losing the wicket of opener Shubman Gill with no run on on board. Gil fell to James Anderson for Zero on the 3rd ball ball of first over. It was a big jolt to India. India were 4/1 after 4 overs.
