Patna : England were 196/4 in 80.3 overs at stumps against Australia on Brisbane Cricket Ground ( Woolloongabba) on the first day of first Ashes Cricket test between the two countries on November 23, 2017, with Dawid Malan unbeaten on 28 and M Ali 13 not out. England won the toss and opted to bat.

James Vince scored 83 runs while  Mark Stoneman made 53. Both Vince and Stoneman are playing in Ashes test in Australia for the first time and were involved in a second wicket stand of 125 runs. Vince was run out. Former England captain and opener Alastair Cook was out for only two runs to fast bowler Mitchell Starc in the third over while Captain J Root was out to Pat Cummins for 15. Cummins took 2/59 in 19 overs. The five-tests Ashes Series began on November 23.
