Patna : New Zealand were 42/0 in 23 overs at stumps on day four of the second cricket test against England at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, New Zealand, on April 2, 2018, needing to score another 340 runs on the fifth and final day to wrap the two-test match series 2-0. Tom Latham was batting on 25 in 79 balls with 3 fours while Jeet Raval was batting on 17 in 59 balls with 2 fours at stumps on day 4.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 202/3, England declared their second innings at 352/9 in 106.4 overs with Captain Joe Root scoring 54 in 128 balls with 4 fours and Dawid Malan 53 in 105 balls with 7 fours. Dawid Malan and Root were involved in a 97 run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow made 36 in 54 balls with 5 fours while all rounder Ben Stokes made 12. Earlier, opener Mark Stoneman had scored 60 and James Vince 76 on day three. For New Zealand, Colin de Grandhomme took 4/94 while Trent Boult and Neil Wagner took two wickets each. Tim Southee took one wicket.
