Patna : Brilliant centuries by opener Lokesh Rahul, 26, and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, 20, notwithstanding, India lost the 5th cricket test against England at Kennington Oval, London, on the fifth and last day of the match by 118 runs on September 11, 2018. England won the five-test series 4-1.

Chasing a target of 464 runs to win the match, India were all out for 345 runs in 94.3 overs on the fifth day. Rahul scored 149 in 224 ball with 20 fours and a six, hit 4th test century, while Pant scored 114 in 146 ball with 15 fours and 4 sixes, his first test century.

Ajinkya Rahane scored 37 runs while Hanuma Vihari was out for a duck. Ravindra Jadeja made 13 while Ishant Sharma made 5. Mohammad Shami too was out without scoring. Four India batsmen including captain Virat Kohli, Cheteswar Pujara, Hanuma Vihari and Shami were out for duck in the match.

Rahul and Rahane were involved in 118 run stand for the 4th wicket. Rahul and Pant were involved in a 204 run partnership for the 6th wicket. Rahul got out when the score was 325 while Pant was out with the team score reading 328.

For England, James Anderson took three wickets while Sam Curran and Adil Rashid took two each. Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, and Suart Broad took one wicket each. For England, Alastair Cook ( 147) and Captain Joe Root (125) scored centuries in the match.

India had scored 292 in their first innings. England scored 332 in their first innings and 423/8 in their second innings.
