Patna : World No 4 in WTA rankings Elina Svitolina, 23, Ukraine, defeated World No 1 Simona Halep, 26, Romania, in the final to lift the women’s singles title of Italian Open on May 20, 2018. Defending champion Svitolina beat Halep in straight sets 6-0, 6-4, in the final at the centre court at Foro Italico, Rome.
Both the players had also met in the final of Italian Open in 2017. In 2017, Svitolina had lifted the women’s single title beating Halep in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the final.
