Bokaro (Jharkhand) : DPS Bokaro in Jharkhand lifted Champions’ Trophy in both Under-14 and Under-19 boys Inter DPS Basketball Tournaments held at Kolkata and DPS Durg (Chattisgarh) respectively last week thus qualifying for the nationals to be held next month.
In the Under –14 (Boys) group hot favourites DPS Bokaro defeated DPS Ranchi 25—18 and in the Under—19 (Boys) category DPS Bokaro team trounced DPS Megacity Kolkata by a huge margin of 53—29 baskets.
In the semifinals of Under— 19 match DPS Bokaro prevailed over DPS Ranchi 34—33 in a nail biting finish to reach the finals held at Durg. Priyanshu Gaurav of DPS Bokaro was declared player of the tournament in which four states Bengal, Odisha, Chattisgarh besides Jharkhand participated.
In the Under–14 championship, which was held at SAI Campus Kolkata, seven teams from three states including three teams each from West Bengal and Jharkhand and one from Chattisgarh participated. Earlier in the semi-finals, (U-14) DPS Bokaro trounced DPS New Town Kolkatta team 34/4 to enter the finals in which DPS Bokaro prevailed over Ranchi.
Being the winners in these tournaments, DPS Bokaro has qualified to participate in the Inter DPS National Basketball Championship to be held in Delhi (Under-14) and Bangalore (Under-19) respectively.
Congratulating the teams, A S Gangwar, Principal DPS Bokaro, said its indeed a proud moment for the school to win finals in both the groups and expressed hope that the teams will excel again in the national tournaments next month.
