Patna : World No 8 in ATP rankings Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, entered the singles final of French Open for the first time defeating World No 72 Marco Cecchinato, 25, Italy, in straight sets in the first semi-finals on June 8, 2018.
Thiem beat Cecchinato, who had defeated former World No 1 and winner of 12 Grand Slam singles titles Novak Djokovic, Serbia, in the quarer-finals, 7-5, 7-6, 6-1 in the semi-finals on Philippe Chatrier court, Roland Garros, Paris. Thiem, the winner of 10 singles titles, fired 6 Aces during the match compared to 3 by Cecchinato. Cecchinato committed 3 double faults to 2 by Thiem.
Thiem won 4 break points while Cecchinato won 1 break point. Thiem won 7 games in a row compared 3 by Cecchinato. Thiem’s winning percentage on both first and second serve was also much better than that of Cecchinato. Cecchinato, however, gave a tough time to Thiem in the first two sets.
