Patna : World No 1 in ATP rankings and winner of 14 Grand Slam titles Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, and winner of three Grand Slam titles Stan Wawrinka, 33, Switzerland, entered the quarter-finals of Qatar Open tennis tournament, an ATP 250 point event known as ExxonMobile Open, on January 2, 2019, at Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex.
Djokovic defeated World No 34 Marton Fucsovics, 26, Hungary, in a hard fought contest 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the Round of 16. Djokovic made a strong comeback after losing the first set. Fucsovics fired 6 Aces in the match to 5 by Djokovic. Fucsovics, however, committed 3 double faults to 1 by Djokovic. Djokovic won 4 break points to 2 by Fucsovics in the match. He also won 6 games in a row to 3 by Fucsovics.
World No 66 Wawrinka beat World No 43 Nicolas Jarry, 23, Chile, 6-4, 7-6 in the Round of 16 to enter the QF. Jarry fired 9 Aces in the match to 5 by Wawrinka. But, he also committed 3 double faults to 1 by Wawrinka, who won a break point too. Wawrinka’s winning percentage on both his first and second serve was much better than that of Jarry.
World No 24 Roberto Bautista Agut, 30, Spain, beat World No 105 Guillermo Garcia- Lopez, 35, Spain, 6-1, 6-4 to enter the QF. Both the players fired 2 Aces each in the match. Agut won 4 break points to 1 by Lopez.
