Patna : Top seed and World No 6 in ATP rankings Kevin Anderson, 32, South Africa, World No 52 Benoit Paire, 29, France, and World No 95 Ernests Gulbis, 30, Latvia, entered the quarter-finals (QF) of Tata Open Maharashtra, an ATP 250 points tennis tournament, on January 2, 2019.

Anderson, who had a first round bye, beat World No 93 Laslo Djere, 23, Serbia, in a tough contest 7-6, 7-6 in the Round of 16. Anderson hammered 20 Aces in the match to 6 Djere. Djere committed 5 double faults to 2 by Anderson. Both the players won one break points each. Both of them also won 3 games each in a row in the match. Adnerson’s winning percentage og his first serve was 79 % compared to 72 % of Djere. His winning percentage on his second serve ( 67%) was also better than that of Djere ( 55%).

Paire defeated World No 89 Jiri Vesely, 25, Czech Republic, 6-4, 6-2 in the Round of 16 to enter the quarter-finals. Paire fired 10 Aces in the match to 2 by Vesely. Paire, however, committed 6 double faults to 3 by Vesely. Paire won 4 break points in the match to just 1 by Vesely. Paire also won 5 games in a row to 2 by Vesely in the match.

Gulbis upset World No 25 Hyeon Chung, 22, South Korea, 7-6, 6-2 in the Round of 16 to enter the quarter-finals. Gulbis fired 8 Aces in the match. Hyeon Chung committed 3 double faults to 1 by Gulbis. Gulbis won 5 break points compared to 3 by Chung. Gulbis won 5 games in a row in the match to 4 by Chung.

World No 100 Ivo Karlovic, 39, Croatia, defeated Evgeny Donskoy, 28, Russia, 6-4, 7-5 in the Round of 16 to enter the QF. Karlovic fired 11 Aces in the match to 7 by Donskoy. Karlovic also 2 break points besides winning 3 games in a row in the match.
