Patna : Top seed Novak Djokovic, Serbia, World No 24 Lucas Pouille, France, World No 53 Reilly Opelka, USA, and World No 136 Yasutaka Uchiyama, Japan, entered the quarter-finals of Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships at Tokyo, Japan, on October 2, 2019.

Djokovic beat World No 133 Go Soeda, 35, Japan, 6-3, 7-5 in 2nd round in 1hr 34 minutes to advance to the QFs. World No 1 Djokovic won 4 break points to 1 by Soeda. He won 3 games in a row to 2 by Soeda. Djokovic hammered 10 Aces in the match to 3 by Soeda.

Lucas Pouille, 25, the 5th seed, brushed aside World No 77 Yoshihito Nishioka, 24, Japan, 6-1, 6-2 winning 4 break points to enter the QFs. Pouille fired 6 Aces in the match to just 1 by Nishioka. Pouille also won 5 games in a row in the match.

Opelka, 22, beat World No 50 Gilles Simon, 34, France, 7-6, 7-6 in second round. Opelka hammered 19 Sces in the match to 3 by Simon. Both the players won 1 break point each in the match. Opelka though won 3 games in a row in the match to 2 by Simon. The American won 61 service points to 54 by Simon.

Yasutaka Uchiyama, 27,  upset World No 45 Radu Albot, 29, Moldova,6-7, 6-3, 6-4 coming from behind in second to enter the QFs. Uchiyama fired 8 Aces in the match to 3 by Albot. Uchiyama won 4 break points in the match to 2 by Albot. The Japanese won 69 service points to 58 by Albot. Uchiyama will face Opelka in QFs on October 3, 2019.
