Djokovic beats Federer to reach Australian Open Final

Patna : World No 2 and defending champion Novak Djokovic, 32, Serbia, beat World No 3 & six-time champion Roger Federer, 38, Switzerland, in straight sets in semi-finals to storm into the final of Australian Open (AO) 2020 on January 30, 2020.

Seven-time champion Djokovic defeated 3rd seed  Federer 706, 6-4, 6-3in 2hr 18 minutes in the semi-finals hitting 31 winners. He has defeated Federer in all four semi-finals matches at Australian Open. Djokovic made 18 unforced errors too. The Swiss hit 46 winners but committed 35 unforced errors.

The Serbian now leads Federer 27-23 Head to Head. He will face the winner of second semi-finals between World No 5 Dominic Thiem, Austria, and World No 7 Alexander Zverev, German, in the final. The second semi-finals is scheduled for January 31, 2020.

Second seed Djokovic won 4 break points in the match to 2 by Federer. He also won 3 games in a row to 2 by the Swiss star. Federer, however, hammered 15 Aces in the match to 11 by the Serbian. But, he also committed 3 double faults to 1 by the Serbian. Djokovic won 69 service points to 60 by Federer.

Federer was serving for the set at 5-3 in the first set. But, Djokovic broke his service to take the set to tie-break which he easily won (7-1). In fact, Djokovic recovered from 2-5 down in the first set. He also broke Federer’s service in the 9th game to win the second set.
