Patna : World No 1 in ATP rankings and top seed Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, entered the 3rd round of Monte-Carlo Masters 1,000 at Monaco on April 16, 2019, defeating World No 40 Philipp Kohlschreiber, 35, Germany, in a tough three-set contest in the second round. Djokovic beat Kohlschreiber, who had defeated him in the 3rd round of Indian Wells Masters, USA, in March 2019, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in 2hr 36 minutes.

Djokovic won 5 break points to 4 by Kohlschreiber. Djokovic committed 8 double faults in the match to 2 by Kohlschreiber. He won 3 games in a row while Kohlschreiber won 2. Djokovic though served only 1 Ace in the match to 3 by his opponent.

World No 11 Marin Cilic, 30, Croatia, however, lost to World No 35 Guido Pella, 28, Argentina, in the 2nd round. Pella upsetĀ  Cilic 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 in 2 hr 16 minutes in the 2nd round. Pell broke Cilic’s service 8 times while the latter broke his service 5 times. Pella fired 5 Aces in the match to 4 by Cilic. Cilic committed 7 double faults to 2 Pella. Pella won 6 games in row in the match to 3 by Cilic.

Fast rising tennis player Felix Auger Aliassime, 18, Canada, the World No 33, entered the 2nd round defeating World No 79 Juan Ignacio Londero, 25, Argentina, 7-5, 7-6 in the first round.
