Patna : World No 3 in ATP rankings Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, and World No 5 Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, on October 12, 2018, entered the semi-finals of Shanghai Masters tennis championship, an ATP World Tour 1,000 points event played on hard courts at Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, Minhang, Shanghai, China.
Second seed Djokovic, the winner of 14 Grand Slam singles title, beat World No 8 Kevin Anderson, 32, South Africa, the 7th seed, 7-6, 6-3 in the quarter-finals. Anderson though hammered 16 Aces in the match to 8 by Djokovic. But, Anderson also committed 4 double faults to 1 by Djokovic, who also won 1 break point. Djokovic’s winning percentage on both his first and second serve was better than that of Anderson. Djokovic also won 5 games in a row in the match.
Djokovic had also defeated Anderson in 2018 Wimbledon final. Anderson had lost to World No 1 Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, in the US Open final in 2017.
Zverev beat World No 14 Kyle Edmund, 23, UK, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. Edmund served 7 Aces in the match to 4 by Zverev, the 4th seed. Edmund though committed 3 double faults ton 2 by Zverev, who won 2 break points. Zverev also won 3 games in row in the match.
