Patna : Winner of 14 Grand Slam singles titles and World No 3 in ATP rankings Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, World No 5 Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, World No 8 Kevin Anderson, 32, South Africa, and World No 14 Kyle Edmund, 23, UK, on October 1, 2018, entered the quarter-finals of Shanghai Masters tennis championship, an ATP World Tour 1,000 event played on hard courts at Qizhong Forest City Sports Arena, Minhang, Shanghai, China.
Djokovic, the second seed, beat World No 21 Marco Cecchinato, 26, Italy, 6-4, 6-0 in the Round of 16. Djokovic served 7 Aces in the match to 3 by Cecchinato, who also committed 3 double faults. Djokovic, on the other hand, won 4 break points besides winning 7 games in a row. Cecchinato had beaten Djokovic in the French Open 2018.
Zverev, the 4th seed, beat World No 33 Alex de Minaur, 19, Australia, 6-1, 6-4 in the Round of 16. Zverev served 6 Aces in the match to none by Minaur. Both the players committed 2 double faults each. But, Zverev won 3 break points too besides winning 5 games in a row.
Anderson beat fast rising tennis star and World No 15 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece, 6-4, 7-6 in the Round of 16 on October 11, 2018. Anderson fired 10 Aces in the match to 5 by Tsitsipas. Anderson will play Djokovic in the quarter-finals.
Edmund beat World No 48 Nicolas Jarry, 23, Chile, 7-6, 6-3 in the Round of 16. Jarry though fired 17 Aces in the match to 7 by Edmund. But, he also committed 5 double faults to 2 by Edmund. Edmund won 3 break points to just 1 by Jarry. Edmund also won 4 games in a row to 2 by his rival. Edmund will play Zverev in the QF.
