Muzaffarpur: The diversion of an underconstruction bridge at Nayagaon under Aurai block over river Lakhandei in Muzaffarpur district has again been swept away by the strong current of the river snapping link between the block headquarters and 30 villages of six panchayats. The villagers have, however, alleged irregularities in the construction of the diversion.

Block develpment officer (BDO) Mohammad Moinuddin said that as a makeshift arrangement construction of a bamboo bridge has been started in the interest of the villagers. This makeshift bridge would become operational in two days, the BDO said.

Meanwhile, traffic on a pontoon bridge at Bakuchi under Katra block in Muzaffarpur district has also stopped due to increase in water level of river Bagmati following rain in Nepal. The communication between 14 panchayats and Katra block headquarters has been snapped as the watr level of Bagmati has increased by two feet affecting about 1.25 lakh people of the area. In fact, erosion has started near Gangaiya high school since September 21. The villagers are trying to stop the ersion by using sand bags.
