Gopalganj: Disturbed over the damage caused to his house due to erosion by river Gandak, one Laxman Mahato (26) committed suicide by shooting himself with a pistol in Hajam toil at Kalamatihaniya under Bishambharpur police station. Police seized a pistol from the spot and lodged a complaint of suicide in this connection. Locals said that the area has been witnessing erosion by river Gandak for the past one- and- a-half month. Several families have shifted to other places.The locals said that Laxman was shifting his valuables for the past one week after demolishing his house.
According Anil Mahato, the deceased’s brother, Laxman had heated exchange with his wife Rekha Devi over demolition of their house and he disappeared on September 26 night. On Tuesday night, the villagers found his body near the house, he added.
On getting information, the local police reached the spot and sent the body for autopsy. A pistol was recovered from a heap of mud nearby by the police. Local SHO Vikas Kumar said it seems Laxman committed suicide after argument with his wife. According to police, Laxman had also made an attempt to commit suicide by consuming poison earlier. It may be mentioned here that one of Laxman’s brothers had also committed suicide about a month back.
