Gopalganj: The court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Gopalganj, on Tuesday rejected the bail petitions of the two woman accused of Khajurbanni liquor tragedy. The bail petitions for the two accused- Indu Devi and Rita Devi-were filed by their lawyer Ved Prakash Tiwary.

The defence lawyer said that Town police in case number-347/16 had made the statement of Bandhu Ram, a resident of Shyam Cinema Road, the basis of the FIR. He further said that Ram, in his statement, had mentioned that he had boozed at the house of Nagina Pasi and lost his eye sight while his son in-law died after consuming liquor.

The defence lawyer further pleaded that no liquor was recovered from the houses of the two women accused and they both had surrendered before the local court on September 19 after the court issued property attachment orders against them. The Public Prosecutor argued that several persons had lost their lives after consuming liquor prepared by the accused. After hearing the arguments of both the lawyers, the court rejected the bail petitions of the two women accused.

It may be mentioned here that altogether 21 persons had lost their lives after consuming liquor at Khajurbanni on August 16. The incident had rocked the state as the Nitish Kumar government had enforced complete ban on sale of liquor across the state on April 5, 2016.
