Munger: With the Bihar cabinet on July 30, 2016, approving the establishment of two universities at Patna and Purnia bifurcating Magadh University (MU), Bodh Gaya, and B N Mandal University (BNMU), Madhepura, respectively, there is a sense of despondency among the people here over the neglect of Munger by the state government in sanctioning a varsity at Munger divisional headquarters. The workers of all the three main constituents of the NDA including BJP, RLSP and LJP collected near the Rajiv Gandhi Chowk on Saturday after sunset and burnt the effigy of CM Nitish Kumar for going back at his promise of establishing a varsity at Munger divisional headquarters made on several occasions.
Before burning the effigy of the CM, leaders of the NDA constituents including Suresh Tanti, Munger district president, LJP, criticised the local MLA for not co-operating in the agitation. Krishna Mandal, a BJP leader, said that step motherly treatmentof to Munger by the government would not be tolerated any more and a massive agitation would be launched for the establishment of university at Munger. Pranay Kumar Yadav, who had unsuccessfully contested the last assembly election from Munger as BJP candidate, said that a mahadharna will be staged here on August 9 to press the demand for opening a varsity at Munger.
The district unit of RJD, a major constituent of the mahagathbandhan, has already launched agitation demanding a varsity at Munger under the leadership of Pramod Yadav, the district president, by forming Vishwavidyalay Nirman Sangharsha Morcha even as the Munger RJD MLA Vijay Kumar Vijay is skipping the agitational programmes of the Morcha. The district unit of Samajwadi party has also started agitation led by Pappu Yadav, Munger district president of the party, for the establishment of a varsity at Munger.
These agitations, though launched separately but aimed at establishment of a varsity at Munger, have embarrassed the grand allliance, said Naresh Prasad Gupta, a social leader worker.
