Patna : World Number 8 in ATP rankings and the 2009 US Open Champion Juan Martin del Porto, 29, Argentina, stunned World Number 1 and five time champion Roger Federer, 36, Siwtzerland, in the final 6-4, 6-7, 7-6, to lift the Men’s singles title of Indian Wells ATP Masters 1000 tournament at California, USA, on March 18 (IST), 2018, late night (IST). The match lasted almost three hours. It was del Porto’s 22nd ATP title and second this after the Mexico Open at Acapulco. It was also del Porto’s first Master 1000 title.

Federer was the defending champion and defeat in the final ended his 17-0 match winning streak in 2018. He had defended his Australian Open singles title this year. Federer is now 18-7 head to head against del Porto. Federer was shaky even in his semi-final win against Borna Coric, 21, Croatia, but finally prevailed over the youngster in three sets.
