Patna : Chennai Super Kings (CSK) beat Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 22 in the 18th match of IPL-12 at M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 6, 2019, night, with spinners : Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir, and Ravindra Jadeja, conceding just 61 runs in the 12 overs bowled by them. Harbhajan took 2/17 in 4 overs while Scott Kuggeleijn took 2/37 in 4 overs. It was CSK’s 4th win in 5 matches in IPL-12 and now have 8 points. KXIP have won 3 matches out of 5 they have played and have 6 points.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, CSK had scored 160/3 in 2o overs with opener Faf du Plessis scoring 54 in 38 balls hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes while captain M S Dhoni scored an unbeaten 37 in 23 balls hitting 4 fours and a six. Ambati Rayudu also remained unbeaten on 21 in 15 balls with a four and a six. Chasing a target of 161, KXIP could score only 138/5 in 20 overs. KXIP batsmen including Chris Gayle, Lokesh Rahul (wk), and Sarfaraz Khan failed to get after the spinners. Opener Gayle fell to Harbhajan Singh for 5 making it 7/1. Mayank Agarwal also fell to Harbhajan for zero making it 7/2. Lokesh Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan added 110 runs for the 3rd wicket but failed to accelerate the scoring rate.

Rahul fell fast bowler Scott Kuggeleijn for 55 in 47 balls hitting 3 fours and a six making it 117/3. It was Kuggeleijn’s first IPL wicket. David Miller was bowled by  fast bowler Deepak Chahar for 6 making it 135/4. Sarfaraz Khan fell to Kuggeleijn for 67 in 59 balls hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes making it 137/5.
