New Delhi : The number of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) confirmed cases climbed to 5,734 in India while the death toll due to it increased to 169 at 5 pm on April 9, 2020, according to Union Health & Family Welfare Ministry. The silver lining is the number of cured/discharged patient has jumped to 477 in the country.

Among the States/UT, Maharashtra has reported 1,135 COVID-19 confirmed cases and 72 persons have died due to the disease in the state while 117 patients were cured/discharged. Tamilnadu has reported 738 confirmed cases and 8 persons have due to the disease in the state while 21 have been cured/discharged. Delhi has reported 669 confirmed cases and 9 deaths while the number of those cured/discharged is 21. Telangana has reported 427 confirmed cases and 7 deaths while 35 patients were cured/discharged.

Uttar Pradesh (UP) has reported 361 CONVID-19 confirmed cases and 4 deaths while 27 persons were cured/discharged. West Bengal has reported 103 confirmed cases and 5 deaths due to the disease while 16 patients were cured/discharged. Karnataka has reported 181 confirmed cases and 5 deaths while the number of patients cured/discharged is 28 in the state.

The Coronavirus death toll in Gujarat, which has reported 179 confirmed cases, is 16 while 25 patients were cured/discharged. Madhya Pradesh (MP) has reported 229 confirmed cases and the death toll due to the disease in the state is 13. Andhra Pradesh has reported 348 confirmed cases while 4 patients died due to Coronavirus in the state and 6 persons were cured/discharged.

J&K has reported 158 Coronavirus confirmed cases and 4 deaths due to the disease while 4 patients were cured/discharged. Kerala has reported 345 confirmed cases and 2 deaths while 83 patients were cured/discharged. Haryana has reported 147 confirmed cases and 3 deaths while 28 patients were cured/discharged. Rajasthan has reported 381 confirmed cases and 3 deaths while 21 patients were cured/discharged.

Bihar has reported 38 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and 1 death while Odisha has reported 42 confirmed cases and 1 death. Himachal Pradesh has reported 18 confirmed cases and 1 death due to the disease while Ladakh has reported 14 confirmed cases. Punjab has reported 101 confirmed cases and 8 deaths while 4 patients were cured/discharged.

A high level meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on COVID-19 was held at Nirman Bhawan, here on April 9, 2020, under the chairpersonship of DrĀ  Harsh Vardhan. The GoM was apprised that 30 indigenous manufacturers for PPEs have been developed and order for 1.7 crore for PPEs have been placed and the supply has already started while orders for 49,000 for ventilators have also been placed. GoM also reviewed the testing strategy and availability of testing kits across the country along with the strategy for hotspots and cluster management.

GoM also directed that Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) should be utilised as per prescription and is not advised for patients with cardiac irregularities or those suffering from cardiac disease which can be harmful. GoM was also informed that sufficient stock of Hydroxychloroquine is being maintained in the country, according to a PIB release.

Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry has deputed high level multi-disciplinary Central teams to assist the States and State Health Department in activities pertaining to cluster containment plan and hospital preparedness (ICU & Ventilator management for COVID-19 patients). The teams have been deputed to Bihar, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, MP, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh.
