Patna : Enjoying the support of CM Nitish Kumar, Bihar legislative council Chairman and senior BJP leader Awadhesh Narain Singh on March 16 retained his Gaya Graduate seat by a big margin in the biennial polls to the four seats of the Upper House held recently. Birendra Narain Yadav won the Saran Graduate seat. It would be his first term in the House.
Singh thanked CM Nitish Kumar for his support in the council poll soon after the poll result was announced. Former State BJP president Mangal Pandey also thanked the CM for extending support to Singh. It would be Singh’s fifth term in the Upper House.
Nitish’s support to Singh is a significant political development as the RJD and Congress candidates were also in the fray for Gaya Graduate seat. Obviously, the RJD is not happy with the development and former CM Rabri Devi announced that the next council chairman will be from the RJD. Singh’s present term expires on May 8, 2017.
