Muzaffarpur :  Two bike borne criminals shot dead a Bihar State Power (Holding) company Limited (BSPHCL) contractor Atul Kumar Shahi, 42, allegedly using AK 47 on Shivshankar Path under Mithanpuraam police station in Muzaffarpur district at 9.05  am outside his house on April 6, 2017. Police suspect professional rivalry to be the reason behind the murder.

Atul was returning from Muzaffarpur railway station visiting a temple on the at when he was shot dead. He owned a jeep and used to give it on hire. As soon as he parked his bike at the gate of his house, two criminals wearing helmet started firing on him from AK 47. A neighbour tried to stop them but the criminals escaped firing two rounds in the air.

Police and FSL team reached the spot to inquire into the incident. Police also looked into the footage CCTV installed in the area, said SHO, Mithanpura police station, Vijay Prasad Rai adding that the two assailants were riding a bike. The SHO said that the deceased was a native of Birpur under Kanti police station in the district but was living in a rented flat on Shivshankar Path for last seven-eight  years. He is survived by a daughter and a son, he said. Police are also looking into the possibility of involvement of Anjani gang in the murder.

A criminal gang had demanded Rs 5 lakh as `Rangdari’ (extortion) from Atul on November 28, 2016, when he was engaged in construction of a power grid at Salha under Mushhari police station in the district. Atul had lodged an FIR with Mushhari police station in that connection on December 3, 2016.
