Bokaro ( Jharkhand) : Chas (Bokaro)  Municipal Corporation (CMC)  is all set to earn more than Rs 60 lakh per annum to meet its expenses from the current financial year itself and will not be depending on financial assistance from the state government.

After  getting approval from all 35 ward councillors for immediate construction of a two storied modern shopping mall  on CMC land  near ITI crossing on Purulia–Dhanbad highway on NH 32, the cash starved corporation will be floating tender next week for construction of  this  shopping complex.

As of now, the CMC  finds it very difficult to generate its own revenue and time and again demands fund from Urban Development  Department  for payment of salary to its staff and meet its  expenses. The ward councillors, who held meeting  in December 2016 at CMC office at Chas, had expressed their serious concern over shortfall in revenue generation of the corporation after which it was decided that the CMC should construct shopping Mall which would generate regular  income to it.

After getting the DPR cleared by Building  construction department  and district engineering  cell, the CMC executive officer along with chief engineer S K Sinha inspected the site on April 22 and it was okayed by the chief engineer and it was decided to float the tender for construction of the shopping Mall next week and the  construction  work is likely to begin from the next month. Chief  executive officer Krishna Kumar  informed that   the  shopping complex will have  more than  120  modern shops and two  community centres. The mayor stated that as per the proposal  the construction work will be completed within two years at an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore.

Besides the shopping complex, the CMC will also construct its new  building at the same site sread over more than 10 acres where even a park will come up at a cost of about Rs one crore.
