Classical songs & Kathak Dance mark Annual Function of Shatrunjay Sangeet Vidyalay, Ara

Ara : Shatrunjay Sangeet Vidyalay, Ara, held its Annual function on February 10, 2020. Dr Paras Nath Singh, former Principal, H D Jain College, Leela Devi, daughter-in-law of Shatrunjay Prasad Singh, Prof Arun Kumar Agrawal, Rajiv Nayan Agrawal, Kamlaksh Narayan Singh, grandson of Shatrunjay Prasad Singh inaugurated the function jointly by lighting the ceremonial candle.

Shatrunjay Prasad Singh alias Babu Lalan Jee was a landlord and an exponent of Indian Classical Music. He was expert in Pakhawaj, Tabla and Kathak dance and had a number of disciples. He had founded Shatrunjay Sangeet Vidyalay at Ara, first of its kind in Bihar during that period.

The programme started with ‘Manglacharan and Saraswati Vandana’ by Seema, Riya, Shreya, Shweta, Anjali, Anushka, Surabhi, and Rubi, followed by ‘Taal Kutchery’ performed by Chandan, Sourabh Pratap Singh, Shakti Singh, Rabi Yadav, Azahar Ali, Alok Singh, Snehit Tiwari, and Rakeh.

Shivani Prakash, Kumari Rupa, Kumari Mintu, Neha Sharma, and Nisha Sharma of Meera Sangeet College, Chhapra in North Bihar, mesmerised the audience with their excellence in Kathak dance. They also presented ‘tarana’ and Dadara—‘kankad mohe lagi jaihe na re———-’ in different postures and gestures which people liked very much. Bakshi Vikas accompanied on tabla while Roushan Kumar and Rohit Kumar were on Harmonium.

A disciple of Debashish Dey of Varanasi, Sushma Choubey, sang classical and presented raag Maru Bihar and Bhopali set in teentaal. Rana Pratap Sinha accompanied her on Tabla.

Brajendra Maharaj kept the audience spellbound with his classical songs in Raag Shuddh Sharang bilambit set in ek taal and drut in teentaal. The programme concluded with Kathak dance by Amit Kumar and Sonam Kumari, which was highly appreciated by the gathering. Later classical singers Jaya Jain and Bimla Devi gave away certificates of excellence and mementos to the participants.
