Clashes in Nawada town, police fire 5 five rounds in air to disperse miscreants

Nawada: Nawada town on April 4, 2017, once  again witnessed clashes forcing police to fire five rounds in air to disperse the trouble mongers. A pitched battle was fought between two groups with stones on the NH near Bhadauni. Several persons were reportedly injured in the stone pelting.  A few shops were also set afire by unidentified miscreants. Magadh range DIG Saurabh Kumar, Nawada DM Manoj Kumar, SP Vikash Burman along with the local civil SDO and SDPO are camping at the site.The situation remains tense but under control. An eerie calm prevails
in the area.

Giriraj Singh, the local BJP MP and union minister, not only rushed to Nawada but even dared the members of the rival group to throw a single stone much to the embarrassment of the DM and other officials. The MP thundered that he would sacrifice every drop of his blood to protect Hinduism.

Ironically, trouble started at ‘Sadbhavna’ Chowk, a busy intersection on NH 31 erected and named thus by former Nawada DM S Vijayalaxmi and SP J S Gangwar more than a decade ago to symbolize communal harmony. A huge cutout of Hindu diety Ram, erected to commemorate Ram Navmi festival, was found ripped apart on April 4 morning, after a ‘peace’ meeting organized by the adjoining Bundelkhand PS SHO Mohammad Sajid Akhtar a
few hours earlier on the police station campus.

The NH remains littered with stones and hundreds of vehicles remain stranded on the busy highway connecting Bihar and Jharkhand. On August 10, 2013, also the same area was subjected too unprecedented communal violence resulting in the enforcement of curfew for four days. Two youths were killed and dozens of shops had been
gutted. The then Nawada DM Adesh Titarmare, at present Bhagalpur DM, was made the scapegoat and transferred despite  huge protest by the people.
