Raipur : Principal secretary, Higher education department, in Chhattisgarh state, Babu Lal Agrawal, an IAS officer of 1988 batch, was arrested by CBI on February 21 and taken to New Delhi by morning flight.
Babu Lal was arrested on the charge of offering bribe in form of 2 kg of gold and Rs 45 lakh cash to a senior PMO official to hush up the disproportionate asset (DA) case  registered against him by the CBI in 2010. Babu Lal was then principal secretary of health department. The Income-Tax department had found that he had amassed assets worth Rs 254 crore.in India and abroad. The bribe to the PMO officer was offered allegedly through one of his brothers-in-law (brother of wife) Anand Agarwal who has also been arrested by the CBI.

Babu Lal was picked up by CBI while returning from Mantrayalya and questioned for two consecutive days. His house at Ramsagar Para was also raided by the CBI. He allegedly owns iron rolling mills in the industrial
area of Raipur. During questioning, he had denied charges of offering bribe to any officer in PMO and pleaded his ignorance about actions of his relatives. He was taken to CBI office at Bhilai on February 20 and formally arrested on February 21.
